“Baggers” or the search for big stock market winners

June 21, 2024

If you’re a baseball fan, you surely know the term “bagger.” But do you know the stock market analogy?

In baseball, the term “bagger” means “base hit.” In the investment world, this term refers to winning stocks.

In a new video, portfolio managers and partners Yannick Clérouin and Karine Turcotte discuss what are called “tenbaggers,” which are high-performing stocks.

Our colleagues explain that this expression is used to talk about stocks that have increased tenfold in value since they were acquired.

As they point out, “tenbaggers” are rare. Guided by its strategy, Medici has been able to invest in “big winners” like Dollarama and Constellation Software.

Using the example of cannabis, which sparked strong speculation, Yannick and Karine note that it’s wise not to always aim for the quick home run. It’s often smarter to try to improve your batting average!
